The explanation for false alarms from security software

The explanation for false alarms from security software

We have received reports from our members since yesterday, claiming that some security software (such as Avira Antivir, Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Filseclab) deleted TheWorld Spring and TheWorld 2.1 Final as Trojan (Backdoor.Win32.Hupigon.bajz) by mistake.

After contacting the official support and engineers from Kaspersky Anti-Virus, we solved this problem with a database update.

However, at the present time still some users report that Avira Antivir, Filseclab and F-Secure have misreported TheWorld Spring and 2.1 Final as Trojan. This phenomenon may result from such security software’s reference to the virus base of Kaspersky.

We think that with the update of the virus base false alarms will be solved.
Please believe that TheWorld Browser is a safe and clean product without any virus or Trojan inside!

Best wishes!

AVG

Still a problem with AVG - Hupigon3.AWWT. When I click 'heal' it just removes the .exe file. I have uninstalled TheWorld and reinstalled it. Still AVG stops me opening the .exe file even if I tell it to 'ignore' How can I solve this?

Avira Antivir Free Version Classic

I ran an update for Antivir this morning.  The update was very large - 5 MB or so.

The false virus warnings are gone, and everything is working as it should.

Avira Antivir PE Classic

Avira picked up the update this morning, and the false alarm is gone. Great!

You may update the database of AVG; members said that today's update solved this problem.

Two days ago, I started to get this message when I tried to open "Theworld" browser: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

Looks like it is because of the internet security software (Shaw Secure provided by the internet service provider), which is based on F-Secure. Updating to the latest database did not resolve the problem.

I cannot use "Theworld" browser now and have to switch back to other browsers. Too bad.

Anyone has the same problem?

If you are sure that you have the latest database,I think  you may re-download TheWorld.exe from our official website and install it again.
As far as I am concerned, now all the false alarms are solved.
Or can you run TheWorld if you pause your Shaw Secure ?

I did once suspect updating might help and updated to the latest version 2.1.2.0 (2.1 Final), but problem remained.
Theworld browser opens with no problem when I set Shaw Secure to "unload and allow all network traffic", so I am sure the problem is caused by the latest update of the Internet Security application (F-Secure based). There was no such problem a week ago.

(Updated 15 Mar 2008)
Theworld browser will also open without problem when "Virus and Spy Protection" is disabled in Shaw Secure.

Problem gone by downgrading to Theworld 2.0.6.6 (2.0 Final).
The problem exists in version 2.1 only and remain there even after re-installing 2.1 Final and updating to latest internet security database.

Problem disappeared following recent updates of The World Browser/Shaw Secure.
